Overview

The goal of Healing Narratives is to capture the experiences of BIPOC with IDD (co-researchers) regarding their experiences with their patient-doctor communication and disseminate the information on how to improve patient-doctor communication by using participatory research methods.

Major Activities

  • Partner with three community organizations that support Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) adults with IDD
  • Train organization liaisons and adults with IDD to communicate their stories about interactions with health care professionals by using art (photographs; drawings; paintings; poetry, etc.) and storytelling
  • Share art and stories to build awareness of people's lived experiences
