Overview
The Virginia Project for Children and Young Adults with Deaf-Blindness is a statewide grant designed to provide technical assistance, training, and information to enhance the lives of children in Virginia with both vision and hearing loss. The project supports families, teachers, and service providers in their endeavors to improve outcomes for children and youth who experience both vision and hearing loss with a goal of improving the quality of life for people with deaf-blindness as they live in their homes, learn in their schools, socialize in their communities and access the services they choose.
Major Activities
- Provide child-specific technical assistance and training to teams, including families, working with a child with deaf-blindness (birth to 21).
- Improve outcomes for young adults with deaf-blindness as they transition to adulthood
- Provide resources and support to families of children with deaf-blindness, especially around involvement in early intervention, education and transition planning
- Conduct state-wide child count of children with combined vision and hearing loss
Target Audience
Families, service providers, and school staff supporting children with vision and hearing loss.
